A Bengali is well known for its depth of literature and our Bengal has always been the birthplace of many artists (writer, musician, painter and much more). It has one of the most developed literacy tradition in Asia. 'Bengali' language was official court language Sultanate of Bengal. Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian to receive Nobel prize in the year 1913 and was titled as 'Kaviguru'. Kazi Nazrul Islam was named as the 'Rebel poet of
British India' or 'Bidrohi Kobi' as his writings always influenced young people to stand against the British Raj and fight for freedom. Other than them Sarath Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote a various novel on the life of common people. famous story 'Pather Panchali" which described the life of a small village boy, his struggle, his family, his happiness, his loss, gain, etc. was portrayed so minutely that audience felt each and every emotion in his words. our great writers have also craved an extra diamond in the crown of our literature by awarding tremendous goosebumps moment with detective stories like 'Byomkesh Bakshi", 'Kakababu', 'Feluda', which proves our rasgulla loving Bengalis are no less than 'James Bond' or 'Sherlock Holmes'. For us Bengalis, these detective stories will always be our first priorities.

Jamini Roy's Painting (Photo: Google pics) |
Bengali culture spread their diversity of work in painting though. Jamini Roy was one of the famous painters who created his own style of painting leading no boundaries of his imagination. He portrayed the life of the common women who then surrounded themselves by serving their families. Other than that he also presented mythological characters in his paintings. Rabindranath Tagore also goes hand in hand with his drawings. Kalighat painting or Kalighat Pat originate in the 19th century Bengal, in the vicinity of Kalighat Kali Temple of Kolkata, and from being items of souvenir taken by the visitors to the Kali temple, the paintings over a period of time developed as a distinct school of Indian painting. From the depiction of Hindu gods other mythological characters, the Kalighat paintings developed to reflect a variety of themes.
The richness of Bengal culture finds no word to match its excellence and a page is too small for its contribution to be counted. This article holds just a pinch of the greatness of its literature and fine arts. On my next article, I will take you all in a tour of Bengali food and culture.
